Ulaanbaatar, October 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. As part of this year’s winter preparedness efforts, Ulaanbaatar authorities plan to stockpile 9,518 tons of salt and 9,590 tons of de-icing chemicals. This is about five times more than the average reserves of previous years. As of today, the salt reserve has been fully secured, while the chemical supply has reached 60-70 percent completion.

Currently, the city’s overall winter preparedness stands at 93 percent. Head of the Urban Beautification and Waste Management Department of the Ulaanbaatar City Mayor’s Office, G. Bilguun, stated, “A citywide campaign titled ‘Are We Ready for Winter?’ was organized to inspect the readiness of 48 public utility companies, including their equipment, salt, and chemical reserves, on-site. The districts’ preparedness levels are between 95 and 98 percent. We have also increased the number of special-purpose vehicles for road and street cleaning and for preventing icy conditions. This year, the city fleet has been renewed with 24 salt and chemical spreaders and 111 specialized cleaning vehicles. Last winter, we managed with 3,075 tons of salt and about 1,000 tons of chemicals.”

Additionally, the Mayor’s Office is conducting a procurement process to supply 1,000 tons of salt and chemicals to support the districts. Across Ulaanbaatar, more than 3,000 street and road maintenance workers and around 1,000 pieces of equipment from 48 public utility companies are responsible for clearing snow and ice from an area totaling 15 million square meters. G. Bilguun urged citizens and business entities to assist city service workers by clearing snow within a 50-meter radius of their surroundings during heavy snowfall.
