Over 50 schools to be involved in Eco-Schools program
Some 55 schools of 11 aimags and Ulaanbaatar city are to be newly enrolled in 'Eco-Schools' international program network and primary trainings for them are being held.   Eco-Schools Program is an international program aimed at developing nature friendly practices through granting education of green and sustainable development, based on ISO 14001 standards, environmental management system to children, youth and local communities and through increasing their participation.

Dr. Masataka Watanabe receives Honorary Professor award from NUM
Dr. Masataka Watanabe, the Professor of Chuo University and Chair of Global Adaptation Network was awarded a title of Honorary Professor from the School of Arts and Sciences of the National University of Mongolia for his practical contribution to the Mongolian science, in particular of the NUM. As a global leading scholar in the studies of adaptation of environmental change, Dr. Masataka Watanabe was appointed as the Co-chair of the United Nations Environmental Program’s Asia Pacific Adaptation Network in 2011 and Chair of Global Adaptation Network in 2006.

Natural shilajit export banned for 5 years
Export of natural baragshun or shilajit is banned for five years in raw or half processed way, by the order of the Minister of Environment and Tourism. Export ban was realized in 2014, however the ban was lifted in April 2016 and statistics shows that 2335 tons of raw baragshun was exported only in 2016.   Baragshun or shilajit is an organic compound, created through accruement as a result of natural phenomenon change and therefore it takes long time to be recovered.  However some companies are exporting baragshun in raw, causing risks to deplete the resource.

Mayors of Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo to meet
On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan, S.Batbold, Governor of Capital and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city is paying an official visit to Tokyo, Japan on April 17-21.        On April 19, today, Mayor S.Batbold will be meeting with Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike to exchange views on bilateral relations between the two cities.

Speaking to residents of several Khoroos of Songino-Khairkhan district during a recent meeting, Deputy Mayor of Ulaanbaatar P.Bayarkhuu stated, “The capital city authorities have planned robust infrastructure development in the frameworks of which several measures are to be taken in the near future”.

Presidential candidate nomination dates fixed
The nomination of candidates for the upcoming Presidential Election will take place on May 2-6, in compliance with the Law of Mongolia on Election which regulates that nomination of presidential candidates will begin 55 days prior to election day and end 5 days prior to the election day.

Today, April 18, delegates led by Governor of Bank of Mongolia N.Bayarsaikhan left for Washington D.C, US to attend the 2017 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund.

Monthly information session by Foreign Ministry takes place
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia held a monthly “Information hour” meeting and gave information about main actions and measures being carried-out in foreign affairs for the media. Kh.Mandakhtsetseg, Director of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Communication informed about an online meeting of Ts.Munkh-Orgil with Mongolia's diplomatic missions abroad and non-government organizations and Mongolian nationals living in other countries. 45 diplomatic missions and 28 NGOs and associations of Mongolian nationals in foreign countries attended the meeting.

Mongolia to host World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships
The Mongolian Bodybuilding Fitness Federation (MBFF) will host the 9th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Ulaanbaatar from October 3 to 9, 2017. This is the first time for MBFF to host this event.

Czech Parliament delegates visit Mongolian Parliament
Czech parliament delegates headed by Zuzka Bebarova-Rujbrova, Member of Parliament, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Petitions and Head of Czech-Mongolian friendship group at the Czech Parliament are visiting Mongolia. Today, April 18, the delegates met with chairwoman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petitions D.Sarangerel, Chairman of Standing Committee on Justice Sh.Radnaased and others and the parties exchanged information on the activities of the Standing Committees.

Erdenet Mining Corporation to cooperate with Chile's Codelco
'Erdenet Mining Corporation' the largest copper and molybdenum ore mining and concentration plant of Mongolia will develop cooperation with Codelco Company, the world’s top copper producer of the Republic of Chile. On April 11, General Director of Erdenet Mining Corporation Kh.Badamsuren and President of Codelco Xompany Nelson Pizarro Contador signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Children of Mongolians living abroad to be registered as Mongolian citizen
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs works to resolve the issue of allowing dual citizenship to Mongolian nationals living abroad. “Today, there are some 144500 Mongolian citizens living abroad and the Foreign Ministry in collaboration with relevant ministries on the exact number of the citizens, as the citizens abroad will vote in the upcoming Presidential Election in June.  Concerning the frequently asked request to resolve dual citizenship, the Ministry is working to resolve so that children born from Mongolian parents are registered as a Mongolian citizen, regardless their location of birthplace” said Director of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry Ya.Ariunbold.

President attends first national symposium of citizens’ representatives
Presidential Office and Judicial General Council co-organized the first national symposium of citizen’s representatives in court on April 17, Monday in the State House. The symposium was attended by some 880 individuals consisting of 416 citizens’ representatives from 330 soums of 21 aimags and 9 districts of the capital city, 114 judges, 121 people representing public organizations, representatives of 77 NGOs and 121 representatives of Khoroos of the capital city’s 9 districts who addressed the role of citizens’ representatives in court and challenges in realization of the relevant law, and issued a recommendation on how to improve the present situation.

31 bird species endure winter in Ulaanbaatar
According to 2016 census, 27 species of 7,583 invidual birds spent the winter in Ulaanbaatar. The number went up to 31 species of 9,494 individuals in 2017. The Environmental Department of the Ulaanbaatar City Administration and the Mongolian Bird Conservation Center involved all kinds of birds in seven districts of the city and that live through the harsh winter of Ulaanbaatar, the coldest capital city in the world.

Non-performing loans decrease by 3.2 per cent
Non-performing loans in a banking system amount to MNT1035.5 billion as of the end of March, showing a decrease by MNT34.6 billion or 3.2 per cent compared to previous month. However, the amount is higher by 7 per cent or by MNT67.6 billion than the same period of last year. Non-performing loans made up 8.2 per cent of total outstanding loans, staying the same as in the first quarter of last year.
