Some regions have higher risk of difficult wintering
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Deputy PM Ts.Oyunbaatar, the minister in charge of emergency matters, gave information on the expected winter conditions in certain regions, at the cabinet meeting Monday. He underlined it is important to launch calculating of animal fodder demand and distributing of hay, and to attract more humanitarian assistance to the regions with higher possibility of dzud.
According to the Hydrology and Meteorology Agency, over 80 percent of the territory is covered with snow as of November 20. In particular, the thickness of snow is 7-12 cm in the most soums of Zavkhan, Uvs, Tov (Central) and Sukhbaatar aimags, and in some soums of Bayan-Olgii, Govi-Altai, Bayankhongor, Khovsgol, Arkhangai, Bulgan, Ovorkhangai, Selenge, Khentii, Dundgovi and Dornogovi aimags.
It is 13-22 cm in Ulaangom soum of Uvs, Tsagaan-Uur of Khovsgol, Yaruu and Bayankhairkhan soums of Zavkhan, Rashaant of Bulgan, Jargalant of Bayankhongor and Jargalant of Tov aimag.
About 40 percent of the territory has high expectancy of difficult wintering. These regions include entire Uvs aimag, most of Bulgan, northern part of Arkhangai, western half of Tov and southern part of Selenge. High risk observed in some parts of Zavkhan, Khentii, Sukhbaatar and Dornogovi.
This December, temperatures are expected to be lower than the multiyear average in the named regions.
