Woman MP to submit bill on Tost and Tosonbumba Mountains’ protection

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Tost and Tosonbumba mountains have been proposed to be takjen under state special protection by government bodies, NGOs and local citizens of Gurvantes soum of Omnogovi (South Gobi) aimag. As of today, 12 mining companies are running operations in this area, licensed with 16 special permits of extraction and exploration.

The area has been taken as a state reserve in the end of last year. A working group led by L.Erdenechimeg MP, head of Standing committee on Environment Food and Agriculture, legged Gurvantes soum on January 23-26.

The working group included representatives of the Standing committee, the committee’s M&E division, press and PR division, Ministry of Environment Green Development and Tourism, Ministry of Mining, General Agency for Specialized Inspection, Mineral Resource Authority, Petroleum Authority, Snow Leaopard Trust, administrators of Gurvantes soum.

Ts.Oyungerel MP informed that she prepared a draft law on taking Tost and Tosonbumba Mountains under state special protection.
