Ulaanbaatar, June 25, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The FIBA 3x3 Basketball World Cup 2025 is underway for the third day at Sukhbaatar Square, Ulaanbaatar. Mongolia becomes the first Asian country to host this tournament. Notably, it is the first-ever World Cup of an Olympic discipline to be held in Mongolia.

A total of 40 men’s and women’s teams from 27 countries, including teams from Mongolia, the United States of America, the French Republic, the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Lithuania, the People’s Republic of China, and Japan, are competing in the tournament. Alongside the Cup, a variety of side events such as entertainment shows, cultural performances, a sports equipment exhibition, as well as an international and local food festival, are taking place.

Among the 20 matches scheduled for today, two games feature Mongolia’s men’s national team. Mongolia will compete against the team from Montenegro at 18:00, followed by a match against Japan at 20:15. Unfortunately, the Mongolian team will play without any substitutes, as player E. Dulguun has suffered a calf muscle injury and will be unable to take the field today. As a result, A. Anand, D. Delgernyam, and O. Enkhbaatar will play both matches without rotation. If Mongolia wins both games, they will retain their chance to advance to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, the women’s national team played their first two group-stage matches yesterday with one win and one loss. They won against the team from the Federative Republic of Brazil with a final score of 16:14, but were defeated by the Olympic silver medalists from the Kingdom of Spain with a score of 10:20.

The group stage will conclude on June 27, and the medal matches will be held on June 29. Organizers highlighted the importance of the event in promoting the developing scene of 3x3 basketball in Mongolia on the international stage, inspiring young athletes, and boosting sports tourism.
