Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Mongolia is one of the 26 pathfinding countries united in the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children. In line with INSPIRE - seven strategies for ending violence against children, a joint capacity building workshop 'Prevention, Early Detection and Response to Violence Against Children in School Environment' is being organized by the One-Stop Service Center (OSSC) under the National Traumatology and Orthopedics Research Center and Departments of Education of Songinokhairkhan and Bayanzurkh districts of Ulaanbaatar.
It aims to enhance knowledge, attitude and skills of school doctors, teachers, social workers in prevention, early detection and response measures to violence against children and to support implementation of evidence-based strategies, respective laws and regulations.
In 2019, a series of workshops on prevention, early detection and response to violence against children was conducted for 650 teachers and social workers and school physicians of 21 state-owned schools in Bayangol district and 5 schools in Uvurkhangai province. Participants provided positive feedback indicating a high demand and need for similar workshops.
This year, the workshop is under at state-owned schools of Songinokhairkhan and Bayanzurkh districts as they are the most-populated districts with a high number of vulnerable population. In addition, the OSSC data shows that domestic violence occurs most often in these two districts. The workshop, which is planned to continue for a month will be conducted at a total of 55 schools engaging over 5,200 school teachers, doctors and social workers. Active participation and collaboration from participants will be key to ultimately strengthen child protection and violence against children in the education sector.
Each year, between 25 November and 10 December, “16 days of activism” is organized as part of the global campaign to end gender-based violence. Since 1998, Mongolia has annually organized a series of activities under the campaign with selected themes each year. The theme for this year’s campaign is “No More: End violence at home, workplace and public place.”
