Coal briquettes and face mask production increased by 2.7-13.3 times in 2020

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. By preliminary results of 2020, the gross industrial output reached MNT 16.5 trillion, decreased by MNT 1.2 trillion (6.7%) from the previous year. This decrease was mainly due to MNT 1.1 trillion-decrease (8.4%) in mining and quarrying gross output and MNT 227.6 billion (6.1%) decrease in manufacturing output.


However, the electricity, thermal energy, and water supply production output grew by MNT 74.9 billion (6.7%). The water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities production output increased by MNT 23.6 billion (21.5%) from the previous year.

By preliminary results of 2020, the mining and quarrying sector, extraction of copper, concentrate, iron ore and gold increased by 1.1-24.6% compared to the previous year. In the manufacturing sector, the production of bottled water, soft drink, juice, cement, wheat flour, and milk rose by 0.8-11.5% compared to the previous year. Also, the production of coal briquettes and face masks increased by 2.7-13.3 times compared to the previous year.

However, in the mining and quarrying sector, extractions of brown coal, fluorspar, hard coal, and crude oil fell by 1.8-40.3%. In the manufacturing sector, the production of alcohol, alcoholic beverage, lime, copper cathode, combed cashmere, meat, concentrated coal, cashmere products, metal steed, and cigarettes decreased by 0.8-49.1% compared to the previous year.

By the preliminary results of 2020, the sales of industrial output reached MNT 19.7 trillion, decreased by MNT 902.3 billion (4.4%) compared to the previous year. It was mainly resulted from MNT 539.2 billion (3.8%) decrease in sales of mining and quarrying output and MNT 470.6 billion (8.8%) decrease in sales of manufacturing output.
