MP, Chair of Mongolia-Canada Parliamentary Group visiting Canada
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) Mr. G. Damdinnyam is working in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Regina cities to meet with Canadian parliamentarians and executive branch officials.
In Ottawa he had a meeting with Ms. Yasmin Ratansi, Member of the
Parliament and Chair of the Canada-Mongolia Friendship Group. During the
meeting, Mr. G. Damdinnyam stressed the importance of relations and cooperation
between the two countries legislative bodies, including the Parliamentary
Friendship Groups as well as mutual trust and support, in developing
Mongolia-Canada relations and cooperation towards a Comprehensive partnership.
In recognition to her contribution in strengthening friendly relations and
cooperation between the two countries he presented a letter of appreciation to
Ms. Yasmin Ratansi.
Mr. G. Damdinnyam also met with Ms. Mairead Lavery,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Export Development Canada (EDC),
Mr. Todd Winterhalt and Mr. Dan Mancuso, Senior Vice-Presidents and Mr.
Guillermo Freire, Vice-President of the EDC. During the meeting he highlighted
foreign investment policies of Mongolia, and post-pandemic economic cooperation
between Mongolia and Canada, including potential ways to cooperate in
increasing investment, cooperation in agriculture and new technologies.
During the meeting with Mr. Perrin Beatty, President of the
Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Vice President Mr. Mark Agnew, the two sides
exchanged views on increasing bilateral trade turnover, improving trade legal
environment, capacity building, corporate governance, financial services as
well as sharing the Canadian experience in public procurement. The Canadian
Chamber of Commerce is a key stakeholder in the formulation and implementation
of economic policies of the Federal Government.
Member of Parliament G. Damdinnyam virtually met with Mr.
Dean McPherson, Mining Director of the Toronto Stock Exchange to discuss ways
to further develop cooperation between Mongolian Stock Exchange and Toronto
Stock Exchange. Mr. G. Damdinnyam proposed to co-organize “Mongolian Stock
Market Day” and discussed possible ways to support the listing of Mongolian
mining projects at the Toronto Stock Exchange.
He also had a meeting with Mr. Alex Christopher, President
of the Association of Miners and Ms. Lisa McDonald, its Chief Executive Officer
and discussed the 90th annual convention of Prospectors & Developers
Association of Canada (PDAC) to be held in 2022. The meeting highlighted
promotion of environmentally friendly practices, Mongolia’s participation in
the convention and its contribution to the development of the mining sector in
Mongolia.
Mr. G. Damdinnyam is visiting Regina to meet with MPs from
the Saskatchewan province, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of
Agriculture. The importance of this visit is that it follows up the Ninth
Mongolia-Canada Roundtable Meeting held in May 2021 which agreed on the Roadmap
for Comprehensive Partnership.
