Project to improve adaptive capacity and risk management of rural communities to be implemented in 68 soums
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. A project ‘Improving Adaptive
Capacity and Risk Management of Rural Communities in Mongolia’ will be
implemented in 68 soums of four aimags. It was discussed during the meeting of a
Working Group led by E.Battulga, State Secretary of Environment and Tourism
Ministry with Ms. Elaine Conkievich, UNDP Mongolia Resident Representative,
and her team. They reviewed the project’s progress in 2021 and exchanged views
on the planning for this year as well as challenges.
This 7-year project seeks to strengthen the resilience of
resource-dependent herder communities in 68 soums of four aimags (provinces)
vulnerable to climate change: Khovd, Zavkhan, Dornod and Sukhbaatar, thus
covering steppe, desert steppe, mountain, mountain steppe and forest steppe
zones.
Expected outcomes from the project will be: strengthened resilience
of herder communities and regions vulnerable to climate change, developed ecosystem
capacity and services, and strengthened institutional and regulatory framework
to support climate-based planning.
