Ulaanbaatar, June 14, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Founder and Investor of Bayan Mongolian Resort Ewald Joseph Erker was granted the “Silk Road” Award by the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry for his contributions to developing eco-tourism in Mongolia.

CEO of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry T. Duuren handed over the Award and noted Mr. Erker, an Austrian national, is developing a nature-based eco-tourist camp in Mongolia. Bayan Mongolian Resort provides its energy needs with power generated from solar panels and Mr. Erker established powerlines and sub-stations for the local community with his personal fund.

E. Erker has introduced international ISO standards for environmental and safety analysis, and control management in the operations, becoming the first in the Mongolian tourism sector, giving an example for other tourist camps. Moreover, his tourism company plants trees every year as part of the “One Billion Trees” National Movement and is working to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.  We briefly talked with Mr. E. Erker.

What is special about your resort?

Our main principle lies in conserving Mother Nature, preserving the Mongolian nomadic way of life, and promoting it internationally and domestically. It is important to create this unique sensation for tourists. For example, we always purchase fresh ingredients from locals for our kitchen, such as fresh milk, meat, dairy products, and vegetables.

Tourism is an industry that can directly benefit locals and increase the national income from exports. We are working to develop a green industry that supports rural development and has minimal harm to nature.

From your point of view, what is important for the development of tourism in Mongolia?

The tourism sector in Mongolia should develop by meeting international standards, and enriching its services with tradition while integrating them with modern trends. It is vital to display Mongolian traditions, cuisine, and lifestyle.

It is praiseworthy that the Government of Mongolia and public associations are working to support locals in rural areas. Our company cooperates with Mongolian artists, which is a way of promoting Mongolia, its beautiful nature, nomadic way of life, history, and culture. Furthermore, we plan on holding a “Nomad Art” exhibition in October this year.
