“Norovbanzad Namjil” Commemorative Silver Coin Now on the Market

Ulaanbaatar, December 4, 2024 /MONTSAME/. A commemorative silver coin featuring the portrait of People’s Artist, Laureate of the State Premium, Hero of Labor of Mongolia, and the Legendary Mongolian traditional long-song singer Norovbanzad Namjil has officially been released. The opening ceremony for the “Norovbanzad Namjil” commemorative coin took place at the Treasury and Currency Hall of the Central Bank of Mongolia. This event marked the 50th anniversary of the cultural cooperation agreement between Mongolia and Japan.


The legacy of People’s Artist Norovbanzad Namjil and her works have been recognized as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Her contributions have played a pivotal role in promoting the uniqueness and magnificence of Mongolia’s traditional long-song, which is a remarkable expression of Mongolian identity and history, and regarded as one of the most distinctive elements of Mongolia's cultural heritage, preserved and evolved over decades. Her powerful, melodious voice brought this art form to international attention, earning global admiration and solidifying its place as an integral part of humanity’s cultural heritage.


Throughout her illustrious career, N. Norovbanzad received various accolades including the Gold Medal at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow, Russia, and the “Asian Culture Prize” from Fukuoka, Japan.



The Central Bank of Mongolia is known to have a tradition of issuing commemorative coins to recognize relevant historical events, renowned figures, cultural heritage, and achievements in sports. The “Norovbanzad Namjil” commemorative silver coin weighs 2 ounces (62.2 grams), measures 38.61 mm in diameter, and was produced using advanced smart-minting and high-relief technologies. The coin was manufactured by the Coin Invest Trust company and is now officially on the market.
