Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The perfectly named Mongolian Saturday, a thoroughbred horse owned by the renowned Mongolian horse trainer D.Ganbaatar, won the first place at the Breeder’s Cup Turf Sprint on October 31.

The owner D.Ganbaatar, well-known as the president of Max Group, said it has been a dream for “Horsemen Mongolians” to have a horse winning a major global race. It is common among Mongolians to ride horses from as young age as four, and to challenge them in lengthful races, he said and mentioned that Mongolia holds a Guinness record of Most Runners in a Horse Race by having had 4,000 starters.

He thanked the trainer and his friend E.Ganbat, and trainer Davaa, the jockey and to all, who helped and supported.

The jockey Florent Geroux said the trainer had advised him to lead the race from the start. The horse was very calm and strong, he said.

The horse trainer E.Ganbat said he had started his distance training five years ago, with a big dream on his mind. “The largest market of horse track centers here in the USA. We have studied horse races in Australia, the UK and France. Training of Mongolian horses and thoroughbreds are quite different. I started to get better at my new specialty from the last year. That’s when we decided to challenge Mongolian Saturday in the Breeder’s Cup”, said Ganbat.

The Mongolian trainers are intending to send their horses to races in Hong Kong, Dubai and in the UK.

They bought the horse, now- five year-old Kentucky-bred Mongolian Saturday, for USD 60,000 about four years ago and collected USD 550,000 for the Turf Sprint win in the last ten outings in the USA. By becoming the champion at the Breeder’s Cup Turf Sprint, the owners have won the USD 1 million, reported the Los Angeles Times.

This is the first win from Asia in the Breeder’s Cup in the last 34 years.
