Japan studies scholar D.Tomorbaatar awarded Rising Sun Order

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ceremony for granting the 3rd Class Gold Rays Order of the Rising Sun of the Emperor of Japan to the scholar of Japan studies Mr D.Tomorbaatar took place December 15 at Japan's Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.

He was awarded as such in a high recognition of his contribution to the Mongolia-Japan friendly ties expansion. 

D.Tomorbaatar learned good Japanese and gained much knowledge about literature in the socialist era. Since 1989, the start of democratic movements in Mongolia, he launched a radio program in Japanese about the daily processes of the democratic movement and transition in Mongolia. He has translated many books of literature, language and culture form Japanese to Mongolian. He has founded the unions of Mongolian Go Drought, Shogi Chess and Soroban.

Scholar still plays an important role in advertizing Japanese culture to Mongolia, by commenting until today the professional sumo tournaments and leading the “Through Japan with Tomorbaatar” television program in UBS TV channel.

The award was handed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia Mr Takenori Shimizu.
