UB International Film Festival opens

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 9th Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival started on October 10 in Ulaanbaatar.

Co-organized by the Administration Office of Ulaanbaatar, the Department of Culture and Arts of Ulaanbaatar, the Arts Council of Mongolia and the Mongolian Film Council, the festival has objectives to boost the cooperation in film industry, to empower Mongolian filmmakers and to deliver the world’s best films to Mongolian audience.

The festival opened with the film ‘Children of Genghis’ directed by D.Zoljargal in the Corporate Cinema, while the festival’s laureate films will be screened in the Tengis Cinema on October 12 within the Mongolian Film Program.   

The festival has chosen the USA as its featured country, thus American film days will be organized on October 11 in cooperation with the US Embassy in Mongolia. It will kick off with a documentary film ‘She Started It’ by Nora Poggi. Stacey Ferreira, a main role of the documentary film, will visit Mongolia to give an interview.

The Arts Council of Mongolia plans to screen films produced in Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Germany Zambia, Russia, France and Taiwan, which were awarded at international film festivals of Canne, Berlin, Pusan, Freiburg, Kazan and Venezuela. A discussion with the filmmakers will be held as well.

In scope of the festival’s program, films ‘State of dogs’, ‘Khadak’ and ‘The Fifth Season’ co-directed by Peter Brosens and D.Turmunkh will be screened.
