Films from 55 countries participating in the Altan Khalis Festival

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Altan Khalis Independent Film Festival (AKIFF), jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, Culture and Art Authority, and Altan Khalis Association, is being held at the ‘iCinema’ on June 2-8.

487 films from 55 foreign countries and 27 films from Mongolia are participating, which means the festival participation is higher than last year's. 17 out of 31 selected films for further competition, are from Mongolia. Organizers noted that the activities of inviting famous foreign directors and artists and organizing seminars and discussions is fruitful.

On June 6, Hukkle (2002) by Hungarian filmmaker György Pálfi, on June 7, Argamjaa (1992) by N.Uranchimeg and on June 8, How do you pronounce Nguyen?, a Filmography by Carol Nguyen will be screened.  

Viewers are free to watch the selected movies of the festival. The judges to select the best short film are the Screen media art specialist of the Culture and Art Authority, a government Implementing Agency, Ph.D. D.Tsengel, Asian Cinema programmer of Busan International Film Festival Kim Young Woo, Director of Brisbane International Film Festival Maxine Williamson, Director and the President of Altan Khalis Association S.Byamba and the Festival Producer of Watersprite: The Cambridge International Student Film Festival, and Director of the the International Emerging Film Talent Association (IEFTA)’s Global Film Expression Bernadette Schramm.

Aside from the judges, German filmmaker Julian Radlmaier, Canadian filmmaker Carol Nguyen whose films have been screened over 80 festivals around the world, Mongolian Screenwriter and film director N.Uranchimeg, Mongolian Production designer A.Davaakhuu, visitors from Kuwait’s Ministry of Culture, who are giving the opportunity to screen Kuwait movies during the festival, and the young film directors are the guests of this festival.

In scope of the festival, viewers can attend special seminars and discussions of talented and skilled artists.
