Foreign Ministers of Mongolia and Canada Hold Official Talks

Ulaanbaatar, November 21, 2023 /MONTSAME. At the invitation of Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, Foreign Minister of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh, is paying an Official Visit to Canada on November 20-22, 2023. Minister Mélanie Joly and Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg held official talks on November 21, 2023.
At the onset of the Meeting, the Ministers expressed satisfaction that over the last half a century Mongolia and Canada relations have grown to an Expanded Partnership based on the shared commitments to promoting democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg noted that the Official Visit is taking place during the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Canada, and highlighted that the relations with Canada, a third neighbour of Mongolia place an important position in Mongolia’s peace-loving, independent and multi-pillar foreign policy.
The two sides commended that in
the past political and security dialogue between the two countries has
expanded, Canadian investment in Mongolia has increased significantly, and cooperation
has been developing successfully in sustainable management of natural
resources, civil service reform, good governance, and women's empowerment.
During the talks, the two
Ministers agreed to upgrade the bilateral relations to a Comprehensive
Partnership for the prosperity of Mongolia and Canada as well as peace and
stability in the region by strengthening the achievements of Mongolia-Canada
relations and cooperation.
Minister M. Joly emphasized that
Mongolia is a democratic partner of Canada in the Indo-Pacific region, which
shares a common view, and commended Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg’s initiative
to promote women's leadership and feminist foreign policy.
The two
Ministers exchanged views on visits and activities to be held next year and agreed
to expand the trade and investment relations and prioritize cooperation in the green
economy, mining, environment, desertification, agriculture, agri-food,
e-transition, and education including training of English teachers.
Minister B. Battsetseg put
concrete proposals on facilitating travel conditions and developing aviation
relations. The two parties also exchanged views on the current regional and
international situation and pressing issues. The parties issued a joint declaration on the
results of the official talks.
