Tulga Claims Second World Championship Medal with Silver in Men’s Freestyle Wrestling

Ulaanbaatar, September 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolian athlete Tulga Tumur-Ochir won a silver medal in the men’s freestyle 70 kg category at the 2025 Senior World Wrestling Championships, held in Zagreb, Croatia, from September 13 to 21.
Tulga advanced through the bracket with a series of dominant performances. He defeated Moldova's Vasile Diacon 2:0 and pinned Bulgaria’s Mihail Iliev Georgiev to reach the quarterfinals. There, he overpowered Georgia’s Akaki Kemertelidze – silver and bronze medalist at the European Championships – with an 11:0 technical victory. In the semifinals, Tulga overcame Kazakhstan’s Nurkozha Kaipanov, a former World Champion and three-time Champion, with a 5:0 win.
In the final bout, Tulga faced Japan’s Yoshinosuke Aogyagi, a World Championship silver medalist and Asian Wrestling Championship silver and bronze medalist, defeating him 5:1 to secure the silver medal.
This marks Tulga’s second podium finish at the World Championships, having previously won a bronze. His achievement brings Mongolia’s total to 29 silver medals at the World Wrestling Championships and boosts the nation’s overall medal count in the discipline to 80.
Among male wrestlers, the most recent silver medalists include Honored Athletes P. Unurbat (2015) and M. Lkhagvagerel (2022).
Meanwhile, International Master Suldkhuu Olonbayar is set to compete for bronze in the men’s 79 kg category, and Tugsjargal Erdenebat will compete in the 74 kg division later today.
