Foreign Minister Visits Charles University

Ulaanbaatar, May 16, 2023 /MONTSAME/. During her visit to the Czech Republic on May 11-12, Foreign Minister of Mongolia B. Battsetseg visited Charles University, where she met with Eva Voldřichová Beránková, the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and professors and students of the Department of Mongol Studies.
Noting that Mongolian students studying in the Czech Republic have been playing a crucial role in friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, the Minister expressed her appreciation that Mongolian students started to study at Charles University. Specifically, the best Mongolian students get to study at Czech universities under the "President's Scholar - 2100" Scholarship Program.
In return, the university management expressed their gratitude for Mongolia's permanent support in developing the Mongol studies program at the university and their aspiration to maintain long-term cooperation between Mongolia and the Czech Republic, particularly in sustaining the partnership between the National University of Mongolia and Charles University. The parties also noted the importance of renewing the Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities.
At Charles University, the Department of Mongol Studies currently has four professors and twenty students pursuing bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.
“I would like to express my profound gratitude to the management and Department of Mongol Studies under the Institute of Asian Studies at the Charles University for making a valuable contribution to developing Mongol studies and training a new generation of Mongolists, and publishing "Mongolica Pragensia," a biannual peer-reviewed international journal that includes original research papers in English dedicated to Mongolia. Furthermore, the uninterrupted publication of this prestigious journal is of utmost importance in promoting Mongol studies on an international scale,” said Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg.
As part of the Mongolian
government's policy to promote Mongol studies internationally, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Mongolia provided financial support for the publication of
the last two issues of “Mongolica Pragensia" in 2022.
During her address, the Foreign Minister informed that the international program "Young Mongolists’ Summer School" would continue, and a new award named after the Foreign Minister of Mongolia has been established, which will be conferred upon the best research work starting from 2023, to support young Mongolists. Minister Battsetseg invited students of Charles University to apply for the award and she also informed her initiative to establish an "International Mongol Studies Day.
