School of Geology and Mining to Be Named After Mongolia’s First President Ochirbat Punsalmaa

Ulaanbaatar, January 22, 2025, /MONTSAME/. During its regular session on January 22, 2025, the Cabinet of Mongolia issued a Resolution to implement the Presidential Decree on “Announcing a Nationwide Mourning Day.”

On January 24, 2025, Mongolia will mourn the passing of Ochirbat Punsalmaa, the First President of Mongolia, Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Great Khural of the Mongolian People’s Republic, Laureate of the State Supreme Decoration of Mongolia, Order of Chinggis Khaan, a distinguished statesman, and a public figure. On this day, large-scale public events, such as cultural performances and sports competitions, will be prohibited from 7 AM until 12 AM. At noon on January 24, 2025, alarms will sound nationwide from automobiles, trains, and power plants, and all civil servants will stand still for one minute to pay their respects.

Additionally, the Cabinet decided to name the School of Geology and Mining of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology as well as the 160-meter road stretching from Seoul Street in 1st khoroo of Sukhbaatar district up to the Peace Avenue after Ochirbat Punsalmaa, the First President of Mongolia.
