Ulaanbaatar, November 5, 2025 /MONTSAME/. A new “Eco Hub” sustainable waste management facility has opened in the 21st khoroo of Chingeltei District, providing a centralized site for sorting and processing waste.

According to the Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar, the facility can receive up to 150 tonnes of sorted waste per day for direct delivery to recycling plants. Funded by the European Union, the Eco Hub Project collects recyclable materials such as plastic, paper, glass, and cans, compresses them, and supplies them to recycling networks. This reduces the volume of waste sent to landfills and helps establish a circular economy system in practice. Each district currently sends an average of 300–350 tonnes of waste to landfills daily. By processing 150 tonnes of sorted waste from three districts, Eco Hub will significantly reduce landfill loads and help prevent soil contamination.

In addition to sorting and supplying waste for recycling, the center plans to launch an incentive program to encourage residents to practice waste separation. Through a mobile application, citizens will be able to earn points for every sorted waste delivery and place bulk waste collection orders.
