17 mountaineers lose their lives
All 17 mountaineers went missing on Otgontenger Mountain in Zavkhan province were found dead, reported the National Emergency Management Agency on October 25.
Soft loan agreement signed to finance Hospital for State Special Servants

Danshig Naadam – Khuree Tsam 2017 held
The 2017 Danshig Naadam – Khuree Tsam religious & cultural festival was held at the central Stadium on August 5-6. During the opening ceremony, Soyombo banner was exalted, symbolizing the freedom and independence of the Mongolian people. Moreover, monks of the Gandantegchenling Monastery performed Mandala offering, prayer of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar and worshipping of Vajrapani religious rituals.

Campaigns for the upcoming Presidential election officially launched today. Candidates for the Presidential elections are current Parliament Speaker Mr M.Enkhbold, representing Mongolian People’s Party (MPP), former Member of Parliament Mr Kh.Battulga, representing Democratic Party (DP) and former Member of Parliament Mr S.Ganbaatar, representing Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party (MPRP).

Vietnamese Vice President visiting

A unique exhibition named ‘Rock Tomb Custom’ opened on wednesday at the National Museum, unveiling over 90 archaeological findings unearthed from two different rock tombs discovered in Khovd province.
Presidential candidate nomination begins today
Nomination of candidates for the upcoming Presidential Election of June 26 begins today, May 2 to continue until May 6, in compliance with the Law of Mongolia on Election. The law states that the nomination of presidential candidates must begin 55 days prior to election day. Parties and coalitions eligible to nominate a candidate for the Presidential Election must submit the necessary documents and files of their candidate to General Election Commission in accordance with the relevant laws and regulations.
Border ports to close on May 1
Mongolia-China border checkpoints will be off on May 1. This day is celebrated as the International Workers’Day in China. A decision to close the border checkpoints for this day has been made. However, international air and rail travels will be conducted on usual schedules.
Buckwheat to be cultivated on Mongolian soil in Japanese technology
Japanese high quality buckwheat, which is a main ingredient of soba noodle, Japanese favorite national dish, is being cultivated on Mongolian soil starting this spring.

Over 10 thousand book covers restored in 2 years
Today, April 25, National Library hosted a book cover donation event for about 35 thousand books with decayed and old cloths or covers kept in its repertoire. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports in cooperation with JCI Capital Mongolia launched a project titled ‘Bookcloth’ in 2015. Since then, over 10 thousand books of the National Library have had their covers and cloths renewed. The National Library keeps over 1 million ancient scriptures and sutras including historical records co-written and composed by scholars from Mongolia, Tibet and India, and books written in precious gemstones.
Umnugobi aimag “to be relocated”
Emergency workers from Umnugobi aimag in cooperation with the National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia will relocate the city of Dalanzadgad, provincial center of Umnugobi aimag. This is the preparation for the “Gobi Wolf” international disaster response exercise which will be held on May 04. The aim of the exercise is to provide emergency workers and local residents with training and methods on disaster risk reduction and management in an event of an emergency situation. “Preparatory works of the exercise to move eight bags /smallest administrative unit/ of Dalanzadgad soum are complete. Residents will walk to the resettlement area when a warning siren ring three times.
