Mongolia-initiated resolution on the situation of women, girls in rural areas approved

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/.  On November 18, the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly approved draft resolution titled ‘Improvement of the situation of women and girls in rural areas’ initiated by Mongolia, without a vote.


The resolution reflects several innovative goals to strengthen the resilience and adaptive capacity of all rural women and girls to respond to and recover from economic, social and environmental shocks and the adverse impacts of climate change, natural disasters and extreme weather events by providing essential infrastructure, services, technology, early warning systems, financing, insurance, social protection and decent work for women; 


105 UN member states joined the ‘Improvement of the situation of women and girls in rural areas’ resolution as co-authors.
