Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Some historical sources state that the Bogd Khaan had a collection of over 800 snuff bottles. From the collection, the ones being kept at the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum were made from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

The First Bogd Undur Gegeen Zanabazar (1635-1723) is also known to have his disciples reconcile by making them exchange snuff bottles, of which tradition continues to exist even today.

Mongolian snuff bottles are distinct for the complementary features in the head and main body of the snuff bottle, its shoulder, mouth, and base as well as style and craftsmanship.
