UN Food Systems Summit+2 Taking Place in Rome
PoliticsUlaanbaatar, July 25, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The UN Food Systems Summit+2 Stocktaking
Moment (UNFSS+2) commenced in Rome on July 24 at the headquarters of the Food
and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), bringing together
around 2000 representatives from 170 countries.
The first UN Food Systems Summit was held in New York, USA in 2021, at the initiative of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres invited the President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to participate in this Summit and the Foreign Policy Advisor to President E. Odbayar is attending the Summit on behalf of the President.
President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh initiated the “Food Supply and
Safety” National Program last year. Under the National Program Mongolia aims to
ensure self-sufficiency in staple food products, nurture green production and
emerge as a food exporting economy. Moreover, the President of Mongolia is paying
attention to fostering cooperation with international organizations and foreign
countries within the framework of this National Program.
The Summit will last until July 26 and a series of high-level events,
dialogues and side events related to transforming agrifood systems on topics
such as food waste, climate change, healthy diets, partnerships, science and
technology, indigenous people’s knowledge, and transportation are being
organized.
At the Summit, participating countries will evaluate the progress made in their commitments within the framework of the second goal of the "Sustainable Development Goals," which is "Zero Hunger." They will also determine the measures and directions for further implementation to enhance the food system.
