Ulaanbaatar, July 25, 2023 /MONTSAME/. The UN Food Systems Summit+2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2) commenced in Rome on July 24 at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), bringing together around 2000 representatives from 170 countries.

The first UN Food Systems Summit was held in New York, USA in 2021, at the initiative of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres invited the President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to participate in this Summit and the Foreign Policy Advisor to President E. Odbayar is attending the Summit on behalf of the President.

President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh initiated the “Food Supply and Safety” National Program last year. Under the National Program Mongolia aims to ensure self-sufficiency in staple food products, nurture green production and emerge as a food exporting economy. Moreover, the President of Mongolia is paying attention to fostering cooperation with international organizations and foreign countries within the framework of this National Program.

The Summit will last until July 26 and a series of high-level events, dialogues and side events related to transforming agrifood systems on topics such as food waste, climate change, healthy diets, partnerships, science and technology, indigenous people’s knowledge, and transportation are being organized.

At the Summit, participating countries will evaluate the progress made in their commitments within the framework of the second goal of the "Sustainable Development Goals," which is "Zero Hunger." They will also determine the measures and directions for further implementation to enhance the food system.
