Mongolia Hosts Side Event at CSW68

Ulaanbaatar, March 12, 2024. /MONTSAME/. The 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), the UN’s largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment is taking place on March 11-22, 2024, in New York, the USA.


On the first day of the CSW68, the Government of Mongolia jointly with the National Committee on Gender Equality and the Asian Development Bank hosted a side event under the theme “Improvement of the Situation of Women and Girls in Rural Areas: Ensuring Equal Access to Quality Public Services and Economic Empowerment.”


The Mongolia-initiated UNGA resolution "Improvement of the situation of women and girls in rural areas" approved in 1982 correlates with the issues being discussed in CSW68 and the event provided an opportunity for the participants of the CSW68, high-level government officials, academia, civil society, and representatives of international organizations and international financial institutions, to discuss possible ways to improve the situation of women and girls in rural areas.



In the past three years, the pandemic that broke out worldwide has created serious challenges in the economic, social, and cultural life of the countries, and every country has exerted its strength to overcome the challenges, noted Minister of Labor and Social Protection Bulgantuya in her opening address to the event. The Minister underscored policies and measures implemented by the Government of Mongolia, mentioning the comprehensive plan worth MNT 10 billion to revive the economy, the Women's employment promotion program, the Cross-sectoral strategic plan for gender equality, the New Revival Policy approved by the Mongolian Parliament as well as Law on Elections of the State Great Khural, that improves equality through increasing quota for women among party candidates from 20 percent to 30 percent in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
