Tourism representatives urge for revised law on tourism industry

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 13, Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mongolian Tourism Association co-organized a forum of businesspeople engaged in the tourism industry under the theme “Challenges of the tourism industry and ways to solve” in Ulaanbaatar. The event is aimed at hearing voices of businesspeople working in the tourism field of Mongolia, discussing together pressing issues and gateways to the development and determining future strategies and principles to pursue in the future.
In his address during the opening ceremony of the forum, Ts.Tsengel, State Secretary of Ministry of Environment and Tourism informed that a working group was established with a view to define ways to solve tackle difficulties of the tourism industry. “In order to develop tourism in Mongolia, we need to learn from other countries’ experiences, conduct promotion of Mongolia to abroad at a policy level and increase the number of skillful employees and have a unified policy.
During the forum, the participants discussed a number of issues of developing proper policy directed at legal problems of tourism companies, foreign and domestic marketing and infrastructure. Furthermore, they talked about various subjects in this field; touching on how to increase the number of tourists, solve difficulties faced with the entities and problems on human resources of tourism companies, security of tourists and quality of services.
Moreover, a sub-meeting, themed “Cooperation of tourism NGOs” was held to talk about comprehensive policy in the directions of stimulating development of the tourism sector through enhancing policy planning and accessibility tourism service and supporting business entities and NGOs and public and private partnership.
The forum was attended by over 300 representatives engaged in the tourism industry, tour operators, teachers and researchers, drivers, guides and investors representing more than 50 thousand employees of the tourism sector of Mongolia.
According to the Mongolian National Statistical Office, in the first quarter of 2017, 78.8 foreigners have entered into the border of Mongolia, which showed an increase of 23.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
During the forum, the tour companies of Mongolia informed that the profits have decreased in recent times and there are not more than 30 companies that receive around 500-1000 tourists annually.
They pointed out the law on tourism is needed to be revised as soon as possible and that the Mongolian tour companies are not able to grow their profits due to the market crowded with too many tour companies.
