Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On February 24, Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg reported that the issue concerning having Mongolian students return from Ukraine was discussed at an irregular meeting of the Cabinet.
Currently, there are 68 Mongolian students, who study in Ukraine, and 22 citizens, who have a permanent residency. As most of the Mongolian citizens that have obtained permanent residency are either married to Ukrainian citizens or employed at international organizations in the country, they have yet to make any requests to return to Mongolia.
Over the past month, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has regularly made contact with the Mongolian students in Ukraine, advising them to return to their home country as the situation may get worse, highlighted the Minister. While 41 students have returned to Mongolia, 27 students had yet to make a decision due to certain factors such as being in their last year of study, and studying at a language school.
“Following the start of the attack, all of the students made a request to return home. A repatriation plan was developed a month ago, should the situation get worse. In its framework, the Cabinet has approved the decision to book 21 seats on flights scheduled for February 26 and 27, of which costs will be covered by the Government. The rest of the students will also be brought back in the near future. In the case where it is not possible to conduct flights, they will be repatriated through Poland,” said the Foreign Minister.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is consistently exchanging information with the Embassies of European countries in Ulaanbaatar as well as the Embassies of Mongolia in Europe. Noting that other countries looking to bring back their citizens from Ukraine are in the same situation, information is also being exchanged with the countries, highlighted Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg.
As the Embassy of Mongolia in Poland is in charge of matters concerning Mongolian citizens in Ukraine, the Mongolian embassy has been sending hourly reports regarding the situation. As of now, no Mongolian citizens have been put in any risk, she said.
Thus, the Ministry is advising the students to carry important documents and necessary items with them at all times, and follow the advisory being given out in the country.
