Negotiations Continue to Launch Direct Flights to 6 Countries

Ulaanbaatar, February 7, 2023 /MONTSAME/. On February 6, S.  Byambatsogt, Minister of Road and Transport Development held meeting with representatives of tourism sector in connection with the national campaign “Years to Visit Mongolia”. According to Minister, it is expected that 1.5 million passengers in this year and 2 million in 2024 would be carried by air transportation.

 

 

He noted that Mongolia had executed bilateral air service agreements with 39 countries. As a result, Mongolia, which was once assigned to 47 destinations in 13 countries, is now able to transport passengers and freight to 100 destinations in 23 countries. 

 

 

As of today, the airline companies “MIAT”, “Aero Mongolia”, “Hunnu Air”, “Ezinis Airways” and “Mongolian Airways” have been conducting domestic and international flights. “Now, it is possible to conduct direct flight to USA in the framework of the air transport liberalism. In addition, negotiations are continuing to launch direct flights to Hungary, UK, Azerbaijan, Greece, Spain, and Qatar in 2023” he continued.   

 


Mongolia, which was once assigned to 47 destinations in 13 countries, is now able to transport passengers and freight to 100 destinations in 23 countries.   


 

According to the information provided by the Civil Aviation Authority, Mongolia is now able to operate 60 flights to 5 destinations in Japan, 14 flights to Thailand, 34 flights to Turkey, 70 flights to 4 cities of South Korea and 21 flights to Beijing every week.

 

 

Moreover, the attendees highlighted the need to support domestic flights to promote local tourism and discussed relative issues. At the end of the meeting, Minister informed the attendees of their focus on lowering the price of fuel, which is the major component of air transport costs.
