Otgonjargal Claims Her Second Silver Medal at World Championships

Ulaanbaatar, September 21, 2023 /MONTSAME/. On September 21, 2023, State Honored Athlete of Mongolia Otgonjargal Dolgorjav added another accolade to her career by securing the silver medal in the women's 50 kg category at the World Wrestling Championships “Belgrad 2023.”  


Otgonjargal’s path to the final was not an easy feat. In the 1/8 match, she faced Turkish freestyle wrestler Evin Demirhan, a two-time Bronze Medalist of the World Championships, and emerged victorious with a score of 8-3. 


Her quarterfinal bout was no less challenging, as she confronted Belarusian Kseniya Stankevich, two-time Bronze Medalist of the European Wrestling Championships. Otgonjargal demonstrated her power and skill on the mat, dominating the match with a remarkable 12-1 victory. 


In the semifinals, Otgonjargal faced off against Olympic Bronze Medalist Sarah Hildebrandt from the US. This was the second year in a row that Otgonjargal had defeated Hildebrandt in the semifinals of the World Championships. 


The match showed Otgonjargal's resilience, as she built a strong lead of 7-1 in the first period. Although Hildebrandt made a comeback in the second period, earning two points on a takedown and two points on an inside knee pick, Otgonjargal managed to maintain her lead, ultimately prevailing with a final score of 7-5. 


In the championship match, Otgonjargal faced the formidable Yui Susaki from Japan, a titleholder of Olympic Champion and three-time Gold Medalist of World Championships. Despite a valiant effort, Otgonjargal succumbed to Susaki's ability, resulting in a 10-0 technical fall.

 

Otgonjargal Dolgorjav is now a two-time Silver Medalist of the World Championships, and she secured her qualification for the upcoming Olympics, setting her on the path to Paris 2024.
