Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With release of the fifth national nutrition survey report last week, MPs are focusing on the Bill on Enriched Food of Mongolia, which is to be discussed by Parliament.

MPs L.Eldev-Ochir and A.Undraa visited flour mills of ‘Khangai Mills’ LLC and ‘Mill House’ LLC on February 26, to hear opinions of flour manufacturers on the legal environment surrounding enriched food and the challenges they face. The working visits were paid in scope of the preparation for the bill’s discussion by Parliament.

L.Ganbat, CEO of ‘Khangai Mills’ LLC informed that the company manufactures enriched flour as a study found that iron and vitamin D deficiencies are common among Mongolians. MP A.Undraa appreciated the efforts of the flour mills in delivering enriched food to the population.

The Bill on Enriched Food was initiated by MPs Ts.Garamjav, B.Batzorig and A.Undraa, and a working group was established led by MP G.Temuulen. MP A.Undraa noted that MPs were paying special attention to the bill, which was submitted to Parliament two years ago.

The fifth national nutrition survey revealed that about 70-80 percent of Mongolia’s population have vitamin deficiency. “Against this backdrop, adoption of the bill is especially important,” said MP L.Eldev-Ochir.

The working group on the bill plans to meet milk manufacturers and furthermore organize a symposium among flour and milk manufacturers.
