Mongolia to Expand Cooperation with Canada

Ulaanbaatar, December 19, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Nyambaatar Khishgee received Ambassador of Canada to Mongolia Steven Doughty on December 18, 2025.
Mayor Nyambaatar noted that Canada is Mongolia’s third
neighbor, a strategic partner in North America, and one of the country’s major
investors. He expressed Mongolia’s interest in expanding intercity cooperation
within the framework of bilateral relations.
Regarding cooperation between Ulaanbaatar and Canadian cities, the Mayor
outlined proposals to introduce smart road and infrastructure solutions,
strengthen the capacity of civil servants, study best practices in developing
eco-cities, and jointly implement projects and programs.
Ambassador Steven Doughty emphasized that there are broad opportunities for
cooperation and mutual exchange of experience in addressing Ulaanbaatar’s most
pressing challenges.
Approximately 46 percent of Mongolia’s population more than 1.7 million people
reside in Ulaanbaatar, which generates 66.6 percent of the country’s gross
domestic product. The Capital City has set a goal to develop into a smart and eco-friendly
city supported by digital technologies.
Ulaanbaatar joined the World Winter Cities Association in 1999 and established
relations with Prince George, Canada. Since then, Ulaanbaatar has worked
consistently to expand friendly relations and cooperation with Canadian cities
through joint initiatives and exchanges of experience.
