President sends official letter on holding review hearing on air pollution

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga sent an official letter to Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold regarding general review hearing, on December 10.

According to the Articles 8.1, 8.2 and 8.2.1 of the Law on Public Hearing, the President requested to hold a general review hearing to monitor the activities of organizations and officials responsible for air pollution reduction, clarify the taken measures, budget expenditures and outcomes.

“I put proposals to consider and implement the recommendations of the National Security Council and fight the air pollution, declaring an emergency to the State Great Khural on December 28, 2017. Parliament responded that the resolution on measures to reduce air pollution was approved and directions were given to the relevant organizations,” reads the official letter and notes 

“State authorities have made a number of decisions regarding the air pollution issue, which seriously violates basic human rights for a healthy and safe environment, spending the money of taxpayers /it is estimated that nearly MNT 550 billion spent between 2016 and 2018/. However, there are no actual results or progress, disaster situation remains the same with increasing damage and harm. The situation can be directly linked to irresponsible activities of high officials and government organizations that back the businesses that make profit from smog.”

“The Article 8 of the Law on Public Hearing states that if the President of Mongolia requests a hearing, the general review hearing is mandatory. Please take an immediate action.”  .
