Ulaanbaatar, January 25, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Since the beginning of the year, there have been four ice-breaking emergency calls registered. In response to these calls, officers from both central and local emergency organizations have taken swift action, rescuing vehicles and ensuring the safety of nine citizens.

For instance, on January 24, 2024, the 45th Fire Extinguishing and Rescue Unit of Kharkhorin soum received a distress call regarding a truck traversing the ice of the Orkhon River in the “Tavan Salaa” area of Nariin Khur bag (subdistrict), Kharkhorin soum, Uvurkhangai aimag. The officers promptly intervened and successfully retrieved the “Hyundai Porter” truck.

The National Emergency Management Agency has issued a warning to mitigate potential risks. Due to variations in the thickness of ice on rivers, it is strongly advised to refrain from traveling on the ice to save time, taking shortcuts, engaging in transportation activities, allowing small children to play on the ice of rivers and lakes, and organizing recreational activities for companies and organizations.
