“Harvoni” medicine for C virus arrives here

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Head of the Standing committee of the City Council on health and food safety Dr J.Amarsanaa has said the Harvoni medicine for curing Hepatitis C virus arrived Thursday in the “Chingis Khaan” international airport.

Produced by the U.S. “Gilead Sciences” company, the Harvoni contains a combination of ledipasvir and sofosbuvir--antiviral medications that prevent hepatitis C virus (HCV) cells from multiplying in human body.

It has been projected that this medicine will cure 6,400 people with C virus. In the first turn, 1,600 people will receive the medicine, one course of treatment costs 1,200 US dollars. As of today, the Harvoni medicine is being used in 30 countries of the EU, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand and Turkey.
