Mongolian doctors perform laparoscopic surgery with French equipment

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Action Mongolia Nongovernmental Organization (NGO) of France has donated equipment and instruments for laparoscopic surgery to the hospital in Dundgobi aimag.

French surgeons, pediatricians and oculist including Bertrand Beaune, surgeon, Rene Fritch and Chantal Novel, oculists, Philippe Rebaud and Elozabeth Chabert, pediatricians, Patrick Sachot, otorhinolaryngologist, headed by Jacques Lagoutte, Vice President of the ‘Action Mongolia’ NGO worked in Dundgobi Aimag where they and Mongolian colleagues performed surgeries, trained local doctors and installed the equipment.

Chief of the Gynecological stationery of the First Maternity Hospital D.Onorjargal said that the First Maternity Hospital cooperates closely with France as well as Australia, Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea.  Last year, the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and France was celebrated in Ulaanbaatar.

”In these frames, we marked the 10th anniversary of cooperation between the First Maternity Hospital and Action Mongolia NGO in light of which a broad range of events were organized including an international scientific conference, publication of a book and handbook and the premier of a documentary on bilateral cooperation. It is the fourth time Action Mongolia NGO donated a full set of laparoscopic surgery equipment to Mongolia since 2009.  The charity action brought benefits to the State Central Hospital III named after Shastin, the First Maternity Hospital, and rural hospitals in Dornogobi and Dundgobi aimags. They aimed to develop laparoscopic surgery in Mongolia.  The laparoscopic surgery equipment cost about 390 million Togrog.  During the last period, Mongolian and French surgeons worked together in Dornogobi, Dundgobi, Khovd, Uvs and Omnogobi aimags. Now, the Mongolian side is studying the present situation in Arkhangai aimag.  In the future, the sides intend to improve the qualifications of Mongolian medical personnel,” she said.

During their stay in Mongolia, Action Mongolia NGO and the Ministry of Health and Sports of Mongolia signed a cooperation memorandum which aims to develop laparoscopic surgery and improve medical diagnosis, treatment and the quality of medical services in Mongolia. Moreover, the memorandum provides for the donation and supply of laparoscopic surgery equipment and instruments, training Mongolian doctors, medical staff and other issue on concerning development assistance from France.  The document was signed by S.Lambaa, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Sports of Mongolia and Jacques Lagoutte, Vice President of Action Mongolia NGO.

During this period, the French NGO donated eye surgery equipment and French oculists performed surgeries in Bayan-Olgii aimag.  This year, Dornogobi aimag will benefit from the charity action of Action Mongolia NGO which has opened a Representation Office in Ulaanbaatar under the auspices of the Mongolian Association of Gynecological Surgery and Endoscopy.

Vice President of the ‘Action Mongolia’ NGO Jacques Lagoutte was awarded with a Friendship medal by the Mongolian President in 2015 for his contribution to the development of laparoscopic surgery in Mongolia and for conducting numerous laparoscopic surgeries in Ulaanbaatar and rural aimags along with Mongolian surgeons and training Mongolian doctors.
