International conference themed “Rock Art: History, Memory and Dialogue” opens
Society | EducationUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Under the auspices of the President of Mongolia and the UNESCO, an international conference themed “ROCK ART: History, Memory and Dialogue” opened May 30 at the Best Western Premier Tuushin Hotel, Ulaanbaatar.
The conference attracted scientists and scholars from the UNESCO, Mongolia, the US, Russia, China, Turkey, Great Britain, the Republic of Korea, Japan, France, Australia, Azerbaijan and Spain.
President Ts.Elbegdorj and the Chief of Staff of the President’s Office P.Tsagaan delivered opening remarks at the conference.
The Office of the President of Mongolia, in collaboration with the Institute of History and Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, has started the research project “Rock art” in an effort to preserve and protect petroglyphs’ memorials. They are considered as the cultural heritage of not only Mongolia, but also of all humankind. Furthermore, the project aims at deepening research that will benefit the young generation, and that will also facilitate the dissemination of the value of petroglyphs to a wider audience.
