90th anniversary of creation of Mongolian studies program at Eötvös Loránd University commemorated

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On October 18, in Budapest, a conference was held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the introduction of Mongolian studies in the curriculum of the Eötvös Loránd University and the 120th birth anniversary of Ligeti Lajos, a renowned Hungarian orientalist, and philologist, who specialized in the Mongolian language.


Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Hungary S. Baatarjav participated in the meeting along with eight lecturers and researchers from the National University of Mongolia and the Mongolian State University of Education.


In his remarks delivered at the opening of the conference, Ambassador S. Baatarjav expressed his gratitude to the Department of Mongolian and Inner-Asian Studies and the Research Center for Mongolian Studies for their valuable contribution to the promotion and dissemination of Mongolian history, culture, and linguistics, for training Mongolists and for their effective cooperation in the fields of education and culture.


To date, more than 90 people have graduated from the Hungarian Eötvös Loránd University in Mongolian studies, while more than 20 have gotten academic degrees.


The meeting representatives visited the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts to be acquainted with the Oriental Studies Fund of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. They viewed the "Home and Temple" exhibition on 19 October 2022. On this occasion, Ambassador S. Baatarjav presented the letter of L. Enkh-Amgalan, Minister of Education and Science of Mongolia and the Chairman of the National Council of Mongolian Studies.
