Mongolia focuses on multisectoral participation in comprehensive health care services for the elderly

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The national conference "Ensuring multisectoral participation in comprehensive health care services for the elderly" is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Health, the National Gerontology Center, and the World Health Organization on 16-18 November 2022.
More than 120 representatives comprised of
professionals, directors, geriatric doctors, health workers in charge of
geriatric care and services from interdisciplinary sectors including the
Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the General
Agency for Labor Welfare Services, the Mongolian National University of Medical
Sciences, the Center for Health Development, the National Center for Public
Health, the National Center for Mental Health, Asian Development Bank in
Mongolia, general hospitals and health departments in 21 provinces, health
centers in 9 districts of Ulaanbaatar city, primary health care workers in
soum, village and family health centers and non-governmental organizations are
participating in this national conference.
Dr G. Navchaa, Head of
the Department of Primary and Referral Support of MoH, Mr R. Khishigjargal,
General Director of the National Gerontology Center, and Dr P. Anuzaya, WR/OiC
of WHO Mongolia opened the conference and emphasized the importance of multisectoral
engagement and capacity building of health care workers. Dr. B. Altanzagas,
Technical Officer at WHO Mongolia, introduced the Regional Action Plan on
Health Ageing in the Western Pacific, which aligns with the “Decade of Healthy
Ageing 2020–2030” declared by the World Health Assembly in 2020.
Various activities are included in the 3-day conference, for example, discussion on improved quality and access to health care services provided to the elderly, training on the management of prevalent diseases among the elderly, multisectoral participation in public health and health care services for the elderly, implementation of the comprehensive plan, exchanging experience and learning from the best practice in health care services for the elderly, and developing joint recommendations with health leaders and health care workers on the policy document for the elderly in Mongolia.
