Ulaanbaatar, January 24 /MONTSAME/.  On January 23, the unveiling ceremony for the postage stamp issued for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Opening the ceremony, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia N. Ankhbayar said, “Today marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In the framework of the historic anniversary, we intend to review the achievements and development of the relations between the two countries and organize a series of events throughout the year, which would define a roadmap for the next decades. Anniversary events start with the unveiling of postage stamps”.

He further said, “During the past 60 years, relations between the two countries expanded in politics, economy, trade, mining, culture, and education. The United Kingdom is our main trading partner, top investor, and third neighbor. We are always grateful for the United Kingdom’s support for Mongolia’s democracy and reforms and confident that the relations and cooperation between the two countries will be further consolidated in the coming years based on our common values such as democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law. On the anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with partner countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a special stamp in cooperation with the "Mongol Post" JSC.”

Philip Malone, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mongolia, said, “The United Kingdom and Mongolia have a long-standing tradition of stamps and postal services. The United Kingdom issued the first postage stamp in 1840, creating a reliable network of postal stations in the British Empire. Although Mongolia issued its first national stamp in 1924, Chinggis Khaan installed the world’s first postal station throughout the Mongol Empire. The unveiling ceremony for the postage stamp is a significant event for marking the anniversary of diplomatic relations. I would like to express my gratitude to the “Mongol Post" JSC for creating a unique and remarkable stamp. The 60th anniversary is important for any relations, especially relations between our two countries. The United Kingdom was the first western country that established diplomatic relations with Mongolia, and it has always been proud of that.

In the decorative part of the commemorative stamps, there are Mongolian and British national flags, a Mongolian yurt as a postal horse stage station at the foot of Otgontenger mount, a moving ger-carriage, a Mongolian Messenger on a horse with a Gerege, an English sea mail sailing ship, medieval post office building and four-horse mail coach in England are shown respectively.
