Ulaanbaatar, April 25, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The “Shambala-2056” Youth Community, which plants trees in the desert areas of Dornogobi aimag, has launched a new land art project, “The MongolZ.”
Under this project, 100,000 elm trees will be planted in an area of 40,000 square meters in the Gobi region. “The MongolZ” Team and the “Shambala2056” Youth Community will jointly create a land art called “The MongolZ#1” to combat climate change and reduce desertification in the desert areas of Mongolia. Everyone can join the project by ordering a tree to be planted through the www.portal.mn website in the area dedicated to a “The MongolZ” team member they support. In other words, team coach Maaraa is the owner of the first tree of the letter "M" in the “The MongolZ#1” land art, while team player Techno4K is the owner of the first tree of the letter "G." Anyone can select any letter of the "The MongolZ#1" and order a tree to be planted in that, contributing to the fight against desertification.
The buyers of trees will receive a tree owner certificate, a letter of gratitude, an annual growth report, photos, and five years of maintenance, including watering, control, and replanting services. “The MongolZ” team calls on people to contribute to this efficient project to restore desertified areas and balance the terrestrial ecosystem. “The MongolZ#1” land art project will be present on the site during the “Art'n Tech Festival of Nomads” event to be held in Arts Tsatsyn Us, Erdene Soum, Dornogobi Aimag, on July 18-20, 2025.
As part of the “Be Human”, “Art N Tech”, and other projects launched to restore desertified regions and balance the terrestrial ecosystem in Mongolia, “Shambhala-2056” youth community has planted 66,857 elm trees in the Gobi so far. The number of trees has been recorded by NASA’s MODIS and ESA’s Sentinel-2 satellites. The tree species they are planting, Ulmus pumila, is resistant to the dry and harsh climate of the Gobi, grows up to 8-12 meters tall, and lives for 100-200 years.
