OSCE observers to start their mission by end of May
Long-term observers of Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, (ODIHR), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will come to Mongolia by the end of this month for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for June 26. They will observe election campaign, electoral process, way of solving complaints and petitions and activities of media organizations during the election.

Rio bronze medalist E.Sodnompiljee wins gold in World Para Powerlifting World Cup
Mongolian State Honored Athlete E.Sodnompiljee, who is a winner of the bronze medal of the Rio Olympics 2016 claimed a gold medal from the Eger 2017 World Para Powerlifting World Cup. The competition took place in Eger city of Hungary from May 4 to 7.

Mongolian athletes win three gold medals in Shanghai
Mongolian athletes gained three gold and one silver medals from the "Shanghai international jiu jitsu open 2017" championship held in China last weekend.   The three gold medals went to T.Munkh who competed in the adult's white belt division of 76 kg, N.Sergelenbayar in the Masters-2 division of 82 kg and B.Enkhtuvshin in the Master-3 division. The silver medal was won by A.Gantulkhuur in the 70-kg blue belt category in the "Shanghai international jiu jitsu open 2017".

Prime Minister sets up council of national brands
The Council on Mongolian National Brands has been established in accordance with a direction of the Prime Minister. The council is chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr J.Erdenebat. Head of the Cabinet Secretariat J.Munkhbat acts as the deputy chairman and some cabinet members, as vacant members of this council. The national brand council convened for its first meeting and approved its rules and action plan for 2017 on May 5.

Feasibility study of ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ complex is ready
A feasibility study of ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ project was developed by Wuhuan Engineering company of the People’s Republic of China. Today, May 5, the work was officially handed over to the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry of Mongolia. ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ project is one of subcomponents of Mining Infrastructure Investment Support Project, financed by the World Bank soft loan.

National Language and Script Day unfolds "Literary Geniuses” exhibition
By the order of the President of Mongolia, National Language and Script Day takes place within the first week of May. This year, the National Language and Script Day is being celebrated under the slogan “National Script: Guarantee of Independence”. Within the framework, a series of exhibitions displaying literary culture and xylography traditions of the Mongolian people, research conferences on Mongolian literature, events promoting the literary works and calligraphies of famous Mongolian scholars of all generations and meetings between authors and readers are taking place.

Mongolia has an upcoming Presidential Election next month, and May 2-6 are the designated dates for political parties to nominate their candidates. A closing ceremony of the ‘Gobi Wolf’ international exercise was successfully held in Umnugobi aimag, on May 5. Promotion of formula milk to be restricted
Today, May 05, Parliament made its first hearing of bill on Infant food and food products at its plenary meeting. Feeding infants up to 3 years old with mother’s breast milk ensures babies to grow up healthy. However, babies have to be fed with imitation milk when the mother cannot feed her baby. The bill aims to regulate the use of breast-milk substitutes, including infant formula, depending on babies' needs with doctor’s advice, said MP Ts.Tsogzolmaa.
