Foreign Minister chairs 75th session of the UNESCAP

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Foreign Minister D.Tsogtbaatar received his assignment of Chairperson of the 75th Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) from the previous chair Foreign Minister of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith on May 27, 2019.

Minister D.Tsogtbaatar expressed gratitude for the great honor given to Mongolia to chair the commission’s 75th session after 20 years. He urged the countries in the region to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and expressed readiness to closely cooperate in this regard.


In his speech, Minister introduced Mongolia’s policy on economy and sustainable development, goals, Sustainable Development Vision 2030 and the Government priorities to the delegates of the session. Namely, the Green Development Policy, Mongolia-Russia-China Economic Corridor for trade and investment facilitation and the North East Asian Super Grid project proposed by the President, calling for the ESCAP and the member states to cooperate on the establishment of authority to regulate the integrated energy market in the subregion.

Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Secretary of the ESCAP delivered opening remarks as well.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand and Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen honored the participants with their presence, expressing their appreciation for the commission’s commitment to the sustainable development.
