International Federation of Translators was founded by Pierre-Francois Caill in 1953 in Paris, France. More than 100 professional associations are affiliated, representing over 80,000 translators in 55 countries.
International Translation day is celebrated annually in
order to strengthen the ties between professional associations throughout the
world, to promote the importance of translators, to exchange experience and
information between translators from all over the world. Translations are being
used as the bridge to connect nations together in this globalized world.
Translators' contributions to civilization have been immeasurable throughout the history. “Please, never despise the translator. He’s the mailman of human civilization.” quoted by Alexander Pushkin. Without the help of translators, people would not have been introduced to different cultures, art, literature, film, science works from another nations.
