Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. UNICEF Mongolia donated an additional MNT 2.9 billion for Mongolian Pandemic preparedness and responses.

This funding has been granted from the Government of Germany to Mongolia through UNICEF. With the funding, UNICEF implemented projects in providing essential medical equipment and medicines for Mongolian health organizations, strengthening the capacity and preparedness of health professionals and further improving the health sector responses across the country.

Since the pandemic, the total Covid-19 cases have reached over one million and as of January 2023, over 2100 people have died. Even though the number of confirmed cases per day decreased, UNICEF and WHO further advised strengthening the preparedness and response to Covid-19 and seasonal flu which is circulating intensively in Mongolia right now.

Mr. Evariste Kouassi-Komlan, a UNICEF Representative to Mongolia, said “In despite of the decreased number of the pandemic, Covid-19 is still a threatening problem for public health. Thus, it is vital to invest in the preparedness and response capacity of the health sector. Moreover, the seasonal flu is at its peak in Mongolia right now and affecting many children and pregnant women. So with the generous funding from the Government of Germany, we are providing this essential support for hospitals and health centers.”

Last year, UNICEF also handed over a total of MNT 6.4 billion of medical equipment and medicines, including equipped mobile clinic, fetal monitor, incubator, and personal protective devices, to Mongolian health organizations.
