Ulaanbaatar, March 26, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia's government has started preparing for the nationwide deliberative polling on the distribution of the country's National Wealth Fund, officials said Tuesday, in what authorities described as an effort to build public consensus on how revenues from the country's mineral resources should be managed and shared.

Under Government Resolution No. 48, adopted in 2026, the initiative titled "Mongolians – Stewards of Their Wealth" aims to consult citizens on ways to channel subsoil resource revenues equitably across present and future generations, while increasing the fund's income and ensuring its proper management.

The poll will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, running from March 27 to April 3, will take place nationwide in cooperation with the National Statistics Office. The second phase is scheduled for April 11–12 at the Great Hall of the State Palace in Ulaanbaatar.

A total of 1,570 citizens are expected to participate — 740 from the capital and 830 from rural areas. Participants selected to represent the country's population in all its diversity. The sampling methodology was developed and approved by the National Statistics Office in accordance with international standards, officials said.

A deliberative poll differs from a conventional survey in that participants are first provided with briefing materials and invited to discuss the issues before registering their views, to produce informed public opinion rather than immediate responses.

A scientific conference titled "Current Situation and Challenges of the Wealth Fund," bringing together scholars, researchers, and policymakers, was held on March 17 as part of the preparatory process.

A working office and sub-working groups have been established to oversee the organization of the poll in accordance with relevant legislation.
