Ulaanbaatar, March 27, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia's Minister of Environment and Climate Change Batbaatar Bat and State Secretary Batbayar Shurenchuluun met with newly appointed ambassadors on March 25. Batbaatar held the discussion on cooperation and preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17).

With COP17 less than six months away, the ambassadors agreed to align their efforts on climate change, desertification, and land degradation in the lead-up to the conference, which Mongolia will host in August.

The meeting was also attended by Uranchimeg Ts., Head of the Protected Areas Policy Department; Unur B., Head of Construction, Organization and Operations at the COP17 National Committee Secretariat; and Policy Advisor Javkhlan A.

COP17 represents a significant opportunity for Mongolia to elevate issues of desertification and land degradation on the global stage, while advancing partnerships in sustainable land management and green development, officials said.
