Ulaanbaatar, March 31, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The State Great Khural (parliament) on March 30, 2026 confirmed Uchral Nyam-Osor as the country's 35th Prime Minister.

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa formally presented the nomination to parliament, noting that the ruling Mongolian People's Party — which won a parliamentary majority in the 2024 general elections — had submitted Uchral's name on March 29.

During the session, Head of the Democratic Party caucus in Parliament, Tsogtgerel Odon, requested a one-day recess before moving to the vote to appoint Uchral as the next prime minister. However, Deputy Speaker Bat-Erdene Jadamba granted only a one-hour break instead, citing the urgent need to form a functioning government and ensure continuity of state operations.

After the recess, the plenary session resumed with lawmakers questioning Uchral on issues such as economic global crisis brought on by the war in Iran, and the issue of state-owned enterprises and how he intends to address it.

Uchral emphasized to keep import prices stable, cut back on bureaucratic red tape — whether to reform state-owned enterprises or eliminate them— and as prime minister he would move quickly upon taking office, with ranking and sequencing the country's major infrastructure projects as his first priority.

At the end of the session of the 107 members present at the session, 88 — or 82.2 percent — voted in favor of appointing Uchral Nyam-Osor as Prime Minister of Mongolia.
