Khan Bank welcomes Frank Hawke to its Board of Directors
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 1, Mr. Francis Edward (Frank) Hawke, a financial specialist joined Khan Bank’s Board of Directors on April 1, 2017. With 37 years of experience in finance, trade, banking, and business development in markets spreading across Asia, including China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan, the Philippines and Indonesia, Frank Hawke has worked with financial market, information technology, agriculture, and energy sectors. His career as a financial advisor and executive include leading key foreign market offices as a vice president at Citigroup from 1985 to 1997.

Social insurance fund revenue increased
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first quarter of 2017, the General Authority for Health and Social Insurance of Mongolia reported that the revenue of Social Insurance Fund amounted to MNT 484.7 billion, reflecting an increase of MNT82.2 billion or 20.4 percent and expenditure of the fund reached 450.3 billion, showing an increase of MNT47.4 billion or 11.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the first quarter of 2017, revenue of social Insurance fund has increased by MNT82.2 billion compared to the same period of the previous year. This was partially due to increased revenue of pension insurance fund by MNT 60.5 billion and health insurance fund by MNT7.6 billion.

Trilateral agreement signed to support employment
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, April 14, a trilateral agreement was established between the Capital Governor’s office, Confederation of Trade Unions of Ulaanbaatar and the Mongolian Employers' Federation, with an aim to increase employment of citizens of the captial city and develop small and medium enterprises. The parties agreed to collaborate in protecting legal rights and interests related to employment and develop social partnership, putting 22 tasks forward.

Tourism representatives urge for revised law on tourism industry
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On April 13, Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Mongolian Tourism Association co-organized a forum of businesspeople engaged in the tourism industry under the theme “Challenges of the tourism industry and ways to solve” in Ulaanbaatar. The event is aimed at hearing voices of businesspeople working in the tourism field of Mongolia, discussing together pressing issues and gateways to the development and determining future strategies and principles to pursue in the future.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry cancels its demonstration
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mongolia made an statement that the Chamber has cancelled a demonstration which planned to organize today, on April 13 at the central square. The chamber had handed a petition to the parliament, appealing to not  increase tax rates, imposing pressure to companies. However , the Chamber President B.Lhagvajav stated that they had met with the Parliamentary Speaker and reached an agreement.

Education
In the early days of Mongolian history, education was primarily provided by the religious and royal institutions. Buddhist monks gave basic education to boys in classes set up within the compounds of monasteries, while children of the royal household and from families of the nobility were educated in order to serve in the court and be hereditary. After the victory of 1921 People’s Revolution was increased recognition of the need for educated people for the development of the country. As a result, the Mongolian education system was modernized and made more accessible to the general public. It| was strongly influenced by the former Soviet Union system and in which two educational paths were stipulated: the academic and the vocational Before socialism in Mongolia, literacy was widespread in monasteries and for government officials. Informal skills were learnt at home and passed on through the family. Some children were taught a language to communicate with neighboring countries or were taught to recite Buddhist texts. Formal education was exclusive and selective.
