Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 28, a new parking lot built in the downhill of Bogd Khan Mountain was commissioned.

The opening ceremony was attended by N.Tserenbat, Minister of Environment and Tourism, D.Oyunkhorol MP, S.Batbold, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar and other government officials.

During his opening remarks, Environment Minister N.Tserenbat informed that the Ministry seeks to refurnish the hiking routes in Bogd Khan Mountain and has launched feasibility studies. He also stated that the Ministry will be monitoring the activities of entities with land permissions in protected areas and review agreements that were not complied with.

There are three main hiking routes within the Bogd Khan Uul Strictly Protected Area, and the most used route is the Zaisan Route that includes Zaisan, Dugui Tsagaan and Baruun Shireet destinations. Statistics reveal that around 4-5 thousand residents of the capital city use the Zaisan Route on the weekends, creating a jam of more than 300 vehicles in the Zaisan Valley. As such, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism issued a direction to expand the road capacity to Bogd Khan Mountain and build a parking lot.

In the initial stage of the infrastructure development project, Naranbulag-Khan company, the contractor, has expanded the capacity of a 2.05 km road and built a parking lot for 264 vehicles. In addition, a complex consisting of parking lots for bicycles, buses and taxis, public toilet and garbage disposal point will be established in the Zaisan Valley.
