Ulaanbaatar, June 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On June 22, the “Ikh Khuraldai” Complex was officially inaugurated as a historical tourism destination. Situated in Binder soum of Khentii aimag near the symbolic site of the Great Nine White Banners.
This site is a historic landmark where the Great Chinggis Khaan was first proclaimed Khaan, the first Ikh Khuraldai [The Great Assembly of the Mongol Nobles] was convened, and the flame of the Great Mongol Empire was first kindled.
The complex features representations of sacred symbols established by Chinggis Khaan, including the Great Nine White Banners, the Sun Seal of the Royal Lineage, an imprint of Guyug Khaan’s Seal, and iser sandal [artistically designed seats] demonstrating the ceremonial arrangement of Khaans and nobles during the Assembly. Additionally, banners, spears, and a designated Area of Honor have been established.
The interior of each gate displays inscriptions in traditional Mongol script from historical sources such as The Secret History of the Mongols, Shar Tuuj, and The Chronicle of the Asragch. The entire Complex was constructed without a single nail, using traditional joinery techniques combined with contemporary and national design elements.
The Ikh Khuraldai Complex was built based on historical documents and scholarly research, by a decision of the Government of Mongolia and with state budget investment. It is located at the confluence of the Onon and Khurkh rivers in Binder soum, Khentii aimag, harmonizing with the natural landscape and geographical features near Tsagaan Lake.
The main structure was built by the "Munkh-Urgoo" Company. The interior design of the Complex, traditional carvings, and external electrical systems were completed by "Khangain Tsagaan Chuluu" company, while the foundation works, landscaping, and utility lines were implemented jointly by “Munkh-Urgoo” and “Nutgiin Baruun Mod” Companies.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, the opening ceremony of the Ikh Khuraldai Complex — which is expected to significantly contribute to the development of historical tourism in the Eastern Region of Mongolia — was attended by representatives from the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia, officials from Khentii aimag and Binder soum, as well as local residents.
